Casino Night

Whatever you vividly desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon…must inevitably come to pass!

Doris lay near death in the oncology unit. Her husband, Frank, had been with her constantly, but on that day, he became very agitated. The nurses were concerned and asked if there was anything they could do for him.

He finally broke down and explained that he was facing the fact that he would be unable to keep his final promise to his wife. Doris loved to go to Las Vegas casinos. When they received the news that she had stage four cancer, he promised to take her back again. However, her cancer progressed much more rapidly than anyone had anticipated, and here they were in the hospital. The nurses listened attentively as an idea was beginning to formulate; a way they could help this couple. The idea was to transform Doris’s room into a “casino.”

The staff went into action, hanging twinkle lights, renting a slot machine, and providing snacks. There were decks of cards and play money everywhere. To add to the effect, some off-duty nurses dressed in black slacks, white shirts, red cummerbunds, and bow ties.

The overhead lights were dimmed, and the twinkle lights sparkled as Frank woke his sleeping wife. Her eyes lit up, and a wan smile spread across her pale face! She played the slot machine one more time and beamed at her husband and the staff as she said, “You did it. You brought Vegas to me!” Frank could keep his final promise to his wife thanks to the care and commitment of the hospital staff.
